Word-A-Day

أعوذُ بِٱللَّهِ مِنَ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ   بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ

As we are all struggling through the challenges in life and different priorities sometimes learning and understanding the Quran becomes the bottom in our list though it should be our first priority. Next challenge comes when we are overwhelmed by its vastness and enormous depth. Then the question comes what should we do?

Let’s get back to Quran for the answer as it’s mentioned above Allah says “We made Quran easy” to “understand and remember” and right after that Allah asks a question Is there anybody who receive admonition or pay attention to it?”
Answer is going to be easy and it should be overwhelmingly “YES” though you may also say No, so remember Allah placed this statement in the middle of five stories of past prophet when people say No to and rejected the message and what happened to them.

Now next thing comes with the above mentioned men made challenges how can we do it and for that we have come up with some ideas and put together a program to show Allah that we have intention, we need his help and we are making an effort.

Idea behind the word a day is at least understand word a day and if you continued without any hinder than in about an year you will understand at least 80% of meaning. But that is not it but rather it is a continuous effort first by creating a base on which you can build. The biggest issue I think when you start learning a language is the vocabulary because you can understand the grammar but if you don’t know the words to express or understand then it is not going to be useful. Many people fumble as it requires time to learn the meaning of those words. So we are starting with learning the common words in Quran.

It will require only 10 minutes a day where you need to pay more attention but otherwise you can just have printed paper that you can keep in car or office at home as per your schedule and keep memorizing it. Try to go through the examples for each word and understand the meaning of it. But basically you need to memorize one word a day for next few months so you get a habit of spending 10 minutes with this so much that you never forget and no matter what priority you have for the day this exercise goes along with it. Another exercise is that whenever you hear Quran weather you understand or not but try to pay full attention to it.

Some brothers might think how come one word a day will make a difference but the thing is that if you would have started 10 years back by now you would have finished Quran by learning one word only and if from here onwards Allah gives you life for next 10 years you would be able to understand most of it and even if Allah calls you earlier one should be satisfied that he has said “Yes” to Allah’s call. That should also be the motivation from here onwards that every time when things get harder and you procrastinate you have to Say to Allah yes I am going to pay attention towards it.
