This Surah takes its name from the very first Aya where night journey has been mentioned. Other name of Surah is Bani Israel (children of Israel) and that is in Aya number 4.

The very first verse indicates that this Surah was revealed on the occasion of Mi`raj (Ascension). According to the Traditions and books on the life of the Holy Prophet, this event happened one year before Hijrah. Thus, this Surah is one of those which were revealed in the last stage of Prophethood at Makkah.
Allah SWT admonishes Bani Israel and Humanity in general and good tiding for the people who believe and do good. Allah SWT orders good treatment to ones parents and teaches how to supplicate for them and social norms and rulings on how to live and be productive person of society.
Allah’s punishment, story of Adam and Iblees, Day of resurrection, and Timings of the prayers has been mentioned. Allah’s Tauhid has been proved with different examples.
And say, “Truth has come, and falsehood has departed. Indeed is falsehood, [by nature], ever bound to depart.” (81)
